4-year-old Aiden Mitchell of Detroit, is being heralded as a hero for helping save the life of his mother, Angela Mitchell, who slipped into a diabetic coma on Saturday morning.

According to WJBK Fox 2 News, at around 9:30 am on Saturday the boy’s great uncle knew something was wrong when his repeated calls to the house were answered by the child. Aiden told his relatives that his mommy was “asleep,” another odd fact that prompted the family members to head over to the home to check on Aiden and his mother.

When the family members arrived, Aiden unlocked the door and let him in just in time. The family immediately called for medical help and emergency services brought Angela to Sinai Grace Hospital. Emergency workers told Aiden’s grandmother, Gloria Mitchell, that had they waited another 30 minutes of so Angela could have been lost. That would have been especially tragic for the family as Angela’s brother passed away from complications due to diabetes earlier this year.

As for the pint-sized life-saver, he knows that he helped his mom in a big way, enthusiastically telling local reporters, “I’m a hero.”

Yes, you are!
