Obamas Light White House Christmas Tree Along with Celebs

The White House is officially ready for the holiday season after a special tradition: the lighting of the National Christmas Tree.

President Obama, the First Lady and their family took the stage outside of the White House for the traditional event on Friday evening (Dec. 6).

Hosted by Emmy Award-winning actress Jane Lynch, the 91st annual event featured a talented line-up of performers including Mariah Carey (who brought her twins Monroe and Moroccan), singer Aretha Franklin, and Jonelle Monáe.

This year’s celebration included a new stage location and a new color scheme for the tree’s decorations.

The tree-lighting ceremony was first held in 1923 during the tenure of President Calvin Collidge.
