“The Lion King” 2013’s Top Grossing Broadway Show

Hit musical “The Lion King” is Broadway’s highest grossing show of 2013. In its 16th year the Disney movie adaption sold almost $97 million in ticket sales.

Currently it runs eight weekly shows at the Minskoff Theatre in New York City. The 2014 Lion King Broadway Tour has started and will visit 5 US cities and 2 in Canada:

Los Angeles Until Jan. 12

Honolulu, Hi Jan. 14 – March 9

Seattle, WA March 12 – April 6

Atlanta, Ga April 10 – April 27

Toronto, ON April 30 – June 15

Washington D.C. June 17 –  Aug. 17

Montreal Aug. 19 – Sept. 7

This is not the only accolade for the show in 2013. NewsDay reports that, this year it became the first Broadway show to earn $1 billion, and last year it swiped the title of Broadway’s all-time highest-grossing show from “The Phantom of the Opera.” It is the fourth longest-running Broadway show, behind only “Chicago,” “Cats” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”
