Pharrell Earns Oscar Nod for “Despicable Me 2” Song “Happy”

Typically there’s not much cross-over when it comes to the Oscars, but this year’s nominations proves to be a great year for Pharrell Williams who has been nominated in the Best Original Song category for his song “Happy” from the animated film “Despicable Me 2.”

Pharrell’s track is up against U2’s “Ordinary Love” from “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom,” “Alone Yet Not Alone” from the movie of the same name by Bruce Broughton, “Let It Go” from the movie “Frozen” and “The Moon Song” from Spike Jonze’s “Her” film.

In other news, Pharrell has even more to be happy about. The same song that earned the singer-rapper-producer an Oscar nomination is currently number one in the UK singles charts and is also on course to break the half a million sales mark.

The 86th annual academy award ceremony will broadcast live from Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 2, at 7 p.m. EST. Ellen DeGeneres will host.
