44th NAACP Image Awards - Red Carpet

Actress Gladys Knight and husband Billy McDowell are raising funds to convert an old North Carolina landmark, which has ties to their family. The building was once an all-Black school during the segregation era, where Billy’s mother worked as a janitor. Gladys and Billy bought the abandoned school for $85,000, and are raising funds to upgrade the estimated $2 million project.

Gladys played Grandma Carol in the comedy television series about an African-American family in the White House titled ‘The First Family.’ Other roles star Christopher B. Duncan as the president, Kellita Smith as First Lady and John Witherspoon from ‘The Boondocks.’

It’s great to see Gladys keeping our history alive… can’t wait to see the finished product!
