Sherri Shepherd Defends Working Moms on ‘The View’ After Child Neglect Allegations by Ex Husband
‘The View’ co-host Sherri Shepherd, who is currently going through her second divorce to estranged husband Lamar Sally, defended working moms on Monday’s episode.
Shepherd’s ex-husband from her first marriage, Jeffrey Tarpley, recently filed court papers obtained by E! News that the star’s busy schedule is causing her to “neglect” their 9-year-old son Jeffrey Jr. But Shepherd has now broke her silence.
“Why do you have to go to work, why do you have to… and you are trying to explain to them mommy is trying to pay the bills,” Shepherd said. “Mommy’s trying to take care of you.”
According to the documents filed in April in Los Angeles Superior Court, Tarpley alleges their son, Jeffrey Jr., has been neglected in Shepherd’s care, adding that her “neglect” has been “compounded by poor parenting choices, refusal to provide for our child’s immediate needs, not being nurtured, both mentally and emotionally, lack thereof or no judgment at all when considering skilled child care providers, and a deficiency for inventiveness as it relates to the minor child’s educational needs and concerns.”
Tarpley is seeking full custody of their son. He has initially asked for temporary physical custody, and requested that Shepherd get “no visitation until the court rules on this issue at the hearing.”
While the judge didn’t grant Tarpley’s temporary emergency order, he did schedule a hearing for July 21.
According to TMZ, Shepherd reportedly filed a response claiming that Tarpley, who lives in California,” is an “absentee dad” who “deserves no part in his son’s life.”
Meanwhile, Shepherd’s estranged husband Lamar Sally filed for divorce on May 2 and asked for primary legal and physical custody of their unborn child, who is being carried by a surrogate.
The baby is due July 28.
