First Look: Keke Palmer Gets Fitted for Debut Role as Cinderella

Tonight (Sept. 9), Keke Palmer will finally slip into her glass slippers and transform into Cinderella as she takes on the title role on Broadway in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.  This is Palmer’s Broadway debut, and the first time an African American woman will play the princess since the show began a year and a half ago.

The news was announced last month that Palmer would be taking on the role while making history at the same time. When Palmer first heard that she landed her role, she was “shocked,” but it made her realize that “if you really try and put your best foot forward, things really can happen, so it was a kind of like a moment of what I believe was truly right.”

“Theater offers so much more that I haven’t been able to access doing film and TV,” she said. “I’ve very excited to learn all that it has to offer – that focus and that dedication to perform at a certain level every night.”

The 21-year-old has spent her summer rehearsing for her Broadway debut along with Sherri Shepherd, who will play evil stepmother Madame. As the night approaches The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the young star to preview some of her looks.
