Alicia Keys Talks Pregnancy and Her Children’s Book on ‘Wendy’
Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Alicia Keys is juggling her music career, preparing to be a mother for the second time and promoting the release of her new children’s book. Keys stopped by The Wendy Williams Show to talk about her book titled Blue Moon: From the Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee.
Blue Moon was released on Tuesday (Nov.13) and tells the story of young LeeLee, who just moved to a large city, and her grandmother Mama Mae, who just so happens to be magical.
Though the story is fictional, it is actually inspired by real life.
“We really modeled the relationship after myself and my grandmother,” explained Alicia.
Also on the topics of discussion was the mother’s upcoming birth. Keys is in her last trimester, and expected to give birth at the end of December. Though Williams tried to squeeze the gender of the baby out of Keys, it was unsuccessful. Keys did however reveal her thoughts on more kids. “I don’t know. We should probably get through this one first.”
The “Girl on Fire” singer is already the mother of a four-year-old son, Egypt, with husband Swizz Beatz. She is also step mother to her husband’s child from his previous marriage with Mashonda. Though it wasn’t always easy for the two mothers to get along, they have set aside their differences and created a successful blended family for the sake of their children.
“It’s about the kids, and so when everybody is able to be an adult, which we all are able to be, there’s actually a beautiful value about the way we can influence each other’s lives and the lives of the kids,” Keys said.
