The First ‘Cinderella’ Trailer Debuts
After releasing a teaser trailer back in May, Disney finally released the first official trailer for its live-action version of Cinderella on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
The movie’s release comes 65 years after Walt Disney Pictures released the original animated classic. The latest rendition, starring Lily James (Downton Abbey) in the title role and Cate Blanchett as her evil stepmother, keeps some of the key components of the most revered fairy tale, including a fairy godmother, a pumpkin carriage, a handsome Prince Charming, Cinderella’s beautiful blue gown, and, of course, her glass slippers.
While the film keeps most of the classic details, the latest version also adds a few new touches. Unlike the original, this version features scenes from the past of a younger Ella–before she was spitefully named Cinderella– with her late mother who advises her to “have courage and be kind.” Ella is “determined to honor her mother’s dying words and “not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her,”says the film description.
The star-studded cast includes Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera as evil step sisters Drisella and Anastasia, Richard Madden as Prince Charming and Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy god mother. The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh.
Cinderella hits theaters on March 13, 2015.
