President Obama, First Lady Join “Toys for Tots” Campaign
A festive President Obama exclaimed “Ho, Ho, Ho” and made merry with his best impression of Santa Clause as he delivered giant red sacks filled with Christmas toys and other gifts for needy children.
Accompanied by first lady Michelle Obama, Obama visited the Joint Base Anacostia-Boilling in Washington to sort through bags of toys donated to the Toys for Tots campaign. The toy-drive was started by the Marine Corps in the 1940s, and has since distributed more than 469 million toys to more than 216 million less fortunate children.
“That’s a lot of dollhouses, that’s a lot of Ninja Turtles,” Obama joked, before attributing the real value of the program to generosity and the opportunity to give back.
