Jacksonville Teen Who Went to Prom with Jaguar Player Loses Battle to Cancer
Earlier this month, we reported the story of a Jacksonville, Fla., teen who went on her dream date to prom with Jaguars player Sen’Derrick Marks. We are sad to report that the teen has lost her battle with cancer.
The Florida Times-Union reports that 18-year-old Khameyea Jennings passed on Thursday (May 21). Cindy Hamilton, a spokeswoman for Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville confirmed the news.
Khameyea was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2013.
Just a few weeks ago, the teen enjoyed a fairy tale prom night with Marks. The NFL player initially surprised the teen by showing up to her room at the Wolfson Children’s Hospital with a large bouquet of flowers and asking if he could her date to prom.
“I really want to make a difference,” Marks said at the time. “I want to do something where you actually make someone’s day, to make a difference in someone’s life.”
The 28-year-old defensive tackle drove the teen to prom in his Lamborghini and they both wore white and gold.
The teen’s mom,Laquandra Jennings, told the Times-Union at the time that her daughter enjoyed the opportunity to have a regular day with friends and her special guest.
“She said this is a day to be normal,” Jennings’ mother said, according to the newspaper, “not to have to worry about needles, chemo, potassium levels. Just a day to be a teenager and enjoy the prom.”
The family of Khameyea received an outpour of support following her death.
