Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is giving back to the community and living out one of his own dreams at the same time by opening his own charter school this fall.

Combs reached out to Dr. Steve Perry, founder of Hartford, Connecticut’s Capital Prep Magnet School, partner with him in the endeavor to open a quality new school and the result is the Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School, located in Harlem, New York. Perry will oversee the new school when it opens in the fall.

“Creating this school is a dream come true for me. I want to impact the lives of young people in my community, and build future leaders. The first step is offering access to a quality education,” the mogul told People. “Every young person should have the tools they need to succeed. All our children should be able to pursue their dreams. That is something I can impact with this school.”

“I’m inspired by Sean Combs’s belief that educating our young people is the key to opening up a world of opportunity for them,” said Dr. Perry in a statement. “Sean and I have spent many long hours over the last five years talking about education and how best to meet the needs of the young people of Harlem, and I couldn’t be more pleased to continue this journey through the opening of the school.”

While students shouldn’t get too excited about the thought of Diddy working at their school on a daily basis, Combs has assured fans that he has picked a great board- including Dr. Perry, Dr. Iyanla Vanzant, Reverend Georgiette Morgan Thomas and Combs’ longtime advisor Derek Ferguson- to ensure that the institution is a success.

The school is currently hiring staff and accepting applications for 6th grade and 7th grade enrollment. Prospective students and staff can apply at www.capitalprepharlem.org.
