‘Black-ish’ Star Yara Shahidi Honored at 2016 Gracie Awards

Yara Shahidi GraciesBlack-ish star and budding activist Yara Shahidi was honored during the 2016 Gracie Awards.

The Gracies were established by the Alliance for Women in Media as a way to recognize exemplary programming created by women, for women and about women in all facets of media and entertainment.

The ceremony is also to acknowledge the individuals who have made inspirational contributions to the industry. It’s easy to see why Shahidi was chosen as an honoree, given that she’s used her fame from Black-ish as a platform to further important conversations on topics like gender and racial equality. The young star is definitely a positive example of what we can look forward to from the future of Hollywood.

Other famous faces and shows that were honored at the ceremony include Ellie Kemper (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Aunjanue Ellis (Book of Negroes), BET’s Black Girls Rock, The Mindy Project and more.
