Malia Obama Graduates from Sidwell Friends School
The nation has watched Malia Obama grow up all throughout her father’s presidency and now, as President Obama’s term comes to an end, his daughter prepares to tackle the real world as a high school graduate.
The oldest of the First Daughters successfully completed high school, graduating from Sidwell Friends School recently and making both of her parents proud. Now Malia is free to start her gap year that was previously announced, before heading off to begin her collegiate career at Harvard in 2017.
As far as how President Obama held up at the ceremony? “He was just a total dad,” a mother of a graduating senior told The Washington Post of the president. “No fanfare. You didn’t know they were there.”
President Obama previously told Ellen Degeneres that although Malia is ready and adequately prepared to leave home, he’s not quite ready for her to go yet. “Both of my daughters are wonderful people. Malia’s more than ready to leave but I’m not ready for her to leave,” he told the talk show host on her show. “She’s one of my best friends. It’s going to be hard for me not to have her around all the time, but she’s ready to go. She’s just a really smart, capable person, and she’s ready to make her own way.”
