Cleveland Cavaliers Player J.R. Smith Gets Emotional After Championship Win
J.R. Smith got down right emotional after his team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, won this year’s NBA championship when the topic of discussion at his post-game conference turned to his parents.
The baller have a heartwarming speech about his love and respect for his parents, and why they’re the reason where he his in his life today. “I mean my parents-family- that’s the biggest inspiration in my life,” he said through tears.
He went on to talk about how his family’s strength has seen him through the toughest of times. “I’ve been in a lot of dark spots in my life and if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be able to get out of it. But they are who they are,” he choked out. “They fought with me, they yelled at me, they screamed at me, they loved me, hugged me, they cried with me. They always stuck by my side no matter right or wrong. I know a lot of people who don’t have their parents in their life, their mother or father, but I got the best two.”
Smith’s father was in the room for the speech, when his son described just how much his old man means to him, and on Father’s Day no less. “My dad is easily one of my biggest inspirations. He played this game. To hear people talk bad about me, it hurts me because I know it hurts him. That’s not who I am and I know he raised me better. I know I want to do better. Everything I do is for my parents and my family.”
