Malia Obama Stands with Standing Rock, Attends Dakota Access Pipeline Rally
Malia Obama stands with Standing Rock. The former First Daughter was seen at a Standing Rock rally at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah recently to protest the executive order that President Trump signed to reinstate the Dakota Access Pipeline’s construction.
The event was hosted by actress/activist Shailene Woodley and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Chairman, Dave Archambault II and attended by Obama. Woodley said that it was “amazing” to see the eldest Obama daughter participate in the “…to witness a human being and a woman coming into her own outside of her family and outside of the attachments that this country has on her, but someone who’s willing to participate in democracy because she chooses to, because she recognizes, regardless of her last name, that if she doesn’t participate in democracy, there will be no world for her future children,” Woodley told Democracy Now
18-year-old Malia has been doing a great job at staying lowkey as she re-acclimates to civilian life. She’ll be starting her internship with film producer Harvey Weinstein this Feb. before starting school at Harvard in the fall.
