Amandla Stenberg Risks It All for a Perfect Day in ‘Everything, Everything’
In her latest film, Amandla Stenberg play a teen who has been confined to her home for her whole life because of a life-threatening medical issue.
Everything, Everything is based on Nicola Yoon’s novel of the same name, which follows 18-year-old Madeline Whittier who, due to an immunodeficiency disease, has never been beyond the walls of her home. All that changes when she discovers love, however.

The book’s author chatted with Entertainment Weekly recently and told them that she’d always had her eye on Stenberg, even before the film was developed. “The producers came to me and said, “Here’s who we we’re thinking about…” I really wanted Amandla for, like, a hundred years before I even knew this would become a movie,” she said.
Yoon went on to describe why she feels like Amandla is the perfect actress to play Madeline. “If you watch some of her activism videos, you see it,” she told EW. “She has a real strength, but she’s really optimistic and positive. That’s something Maddie is. She’s in this terrible situation, but she believes what she believes, makes the best of it, and has a core, a center that’s really strong. Amandla also has an innocence about her, which Maddie does, too.”
