Looks like the trouble of finding cast members for Disney’s live action remake of Aladdin has finally ended. It was announced that the studio has found its Aladdin, Jasmine, and the wish-granter– Genie.

During the D23 Expo, Disney Studios production president Sean Bailey took the stage to announce some of the cast for the Disney classic – Entertainment Weekly reports. Starring in the film, as Aladdin will be Mena Massoud, who costars in the Jack Ryan television series, Jasmine will be played by Naomi Scott, who recently starred in Power Rangers, and last but not least – legendary actor Will Smith, is set to play the beloved Genie.

Directed by the filmmaker responsible for Sherlock Holmes, Snatch, and Man From U.N.C.L.E – the live action film is said to have influence from countries including Asia, India, and the Middle East. Entertainment Weekly reports that the film will not only have influence from the 1992 award-winning animated movie but from classic Arabic folktales of One Thousand And One Nights.

This announcement comes after some controversy that has been circling around the casting of the film for quite some time. It has been reported that the filmmakers were having trouble wrapping up casting due to difficulty finding an Indian or Middle Eastern actor who can sing and dance for the title role. Set to begin shooting in London in August, the film has yet to find its parrot Iago, Aladdin’s sidekick Abu, Jasmine’s pet tiger Raja, and the villainous Jafar.

It has been reported that Aladdin is not the only Disney classic that is set to get a live-action remake. Fans should keep their eyes peeled for remakes of films including, Mulan, Dumbo, The Lion King and more!
