Chance the Rapper Launches Award Show to Honor Educators and Students
Chance the Rapper is doing what he can to show educators and students alike the recognition they deserve.
As the Huffington Post reports, the Chicago native is launching a new inaugural awards show called the Twilight Awards. Set to take place in June 2018, the ceremony will be hosted by James Corden and will celebrate “teachers, parents, students and principals that convey leadership,” Chance said in his announcement.
During the exciting announcement, Chance shared that the ceremony will be held in his hometown of Chicago and also feature special guest performances. While making the announcement at the end of a summit got his SocialWorks charity, Chance pledged a $2.2 million donation to 20 Chicago public schools. The summit, launched last year, serves as a space where Chance gave an update on the nonprofit’s progress. According to the SocialWorks website, the organizations purpose is to “empower youth through the arts, education, and civic engagement while fostering leadership, accessibility, and positivity within the youth throughout Chicago.”
“Every contribution…brings this city and this nation closer to providing a well-rounded quality education for each and every child,” the “No Problems” rapper said. “Funding quality education for public [school] students is the most important investment a community can make.”
The award show is just one of the projects the Coloring Book emcee has been working on to give back to the community. Along with the Twilight Awards, Chance was recently spotted at Nando’s Peri-Peri grilling chicken for charity and was even honored by former First Lady Michelle Obama and received Humanitarian Award at the BET Awards. In the past, Chano donated money and 30,000 backpacks filled with items for the children of Chicago, led a march to the voting polls, and most notably gave a $1 million donation to the Chicago public schools.
