Award winning actress and Black Panther star Lupita Nyong’o is adding author to her growing resume! The Nigerian actress has announced that she will be writing a children’s book that celebrates melanin!

According to the New York Times, the actress will pen her debut children’s book “Sulwe” for Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, which is set for a January 2019 release. Nyong’o is sticking into her roots when titling the book, as “Sulwe” means star in Luo. The book tells the story of a 5-year-old girl living in Kenya. In the story, Sulwe has the darkest skin in her family, which makes her so uncomfortable that she is determined to lighten her skin. After receiving advice from her mother, Sulwe recognizes her beauty.

“I am pleased to reveal that I have written a children’s book! It’s called “Sulwe”!  ulwe is a dark skinned girl who goes on a starry-eyed adventure, and awakens with a reimagined sense of beauty.” She wrote on Instagram. “She encounters lessons that we learn as children and spend our lives unlearning. This is a story for little ones, but no matter the age I hope it serves as an inspiration for everyone to walk with joy in their own skin. Coming January 2019!!”

The 12 Years Slave actress hopes to target children from ages 5 to 7 with her book because “you learn all the things that you spend the rest of your life trying to unlearn.” at the time. In writing this book, she ultimately wants to help all children rethink the definition of beauty.
