Having the flexibility to go home for dinn... moreI'm lucky enough to live in a city where we have several major colleges at all levels (HBCUs included). I went to school locally as well and lived on campus. It's truly a different world when you're on campus. Having the flexibility to go home for dinner or just to see the family was cool for me...and being able to get away and have my own life was even cooler. I realize that everyone may not live in a city like that. I would still want my kid to be in the same state.

I have a lot of college choices in my city, too (including hbcus), so I would prefer my daughter choose one of those. but you know how young adults are...
